Roy Samra (Barney) is elated to be joining the Barney cast for his second time, but as the title role this go-around! He originally portrayed the role of Buttons in the premiere production of the show in 2015. Other Chicago credits include work with Windy City Music Theatre (Seussical, Hairspray), Pride Films & Plays (Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, The CiviliTy of Albert Cashier), and Polarity Ensemble Theatre (A Midsummer Night’s Dream). You can catch him joining the casts of Anna Karenina and Neverwhere this spring at Lifeline Theatre. Much love to Tommy, Carin, Nik, Ashley, and the rest of the cast/creative team for their endless care and support. Proud Oklahoma City University graduate.
Dixie Lynn Cartwright (Zooey) is returning to The Other Theatre Company’s Barney the Elf for her 3rd year in the role of Zooey. Her previous credits include Snow White and the Seven Drag Queens, The Bitchfest Club, and Scream Girls (MidTangent Productions). She can also be seen hosting her own monthly show, Dixie Wins A Talent Show, at Berlin. When she’s not hosting RuPaul’s Drag Race viewing parties or Beyoncé dance contests at Sidetrack, she’s singing obscure Broadway songs to her tens of tens of YouTube fans. Dixie is a drag character creation of Drew Nixon, who can be seen when you scrape off all that beauty and schellac. MAGGIE CAIN (Mrs. Claus) is pleased as Christmas punch to return for her third season in Barney the Elf. This year she appeared in Visiting at Artemisia Theatre, the allfemme St. Joan with Poetry Forum Collective, and on Chicago Fire. Other credits include Men Should Weep (Jeff Award for Best Play), Kin and Stage Door (all with Griffin Theatre), The Glass Menagerie (Mary-Arrchie Theatre – Broadway World Award for Best Ensemble), Pornography and Moment (Steep Theatre), Good Boys and True, Stop Kiss, and Book of Days (Raven), The Consultant (Signal Ensemble) and Troll (Fraud and Phony). Jaron Bellar (Junior) received his BFA in Theatre Performance from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Some of his theatre credits and favorite roles include; Hugo in Passing Strange (Dir. Derrick Sanders) Rodolpho in A View from the Bridge (Dir. Yasen Peyankov,) John in The Angry Brigade (Dir. Tiffany Fulson) and Fabian in Twelfth Night (Dir. Rob Clare.) He most recently was seen in the roles of Jonathan and Steve for the premiere of Strangest Things! The Musical with RandomActs and Greenhouse Theatre Center. Jaron is so elfin happy to be joining the cast of Barney the Elf and would like to thank all of his family and friends for being a sturdy support!
Courtney Dane Mize (Cookie) is excited to be performing in this years Barney the Elf! She’s a Mississippi native and graduate of Ole Miss (Hotty Toddy!) class of 2014. When not on stage, you can see her singing with friends and playing her mandolin. Some Chicago credits include: Strangest Things! The Musical (Nancy/Will), Flight (Little Girl/Ensemble) with Kokandy Productions, Exit the Queen (Actress) with The Ruckus, Blasphemy of Bees (Janet) with Kite & Key Theatre, and Kiss of the Spider Woman (Marta) with Benevolent Theatre. This spring she’ll be understudying the role of Annie for Magic Tree House: Showtime with Shakespeare with Emerald City Theatre. For Mom, Dad, and Kayla. His eye is on the sparrow.
Emilie Rose Danno (Ensemble) is a singer, writer, improviser, and actress. She enjoys cuddling with her dog, cookies and creating stuff. Her favorite credits include: “How Does That Make You Feel” at Stage 773 (Genevieve) “How To Succeed In Business Without Even Trying” at Summer Place Theater (Rosemary) and “Laugh out Loud Quietly” which she acted, produced and directed along with her best friend. Emilie Rose also has a web series she co-wrote and acted in titled “That Moment When”. She is so excited to be a part of this show and hopes you get into the christmas spirit, with Barney The Elf.
Colleen DeRosa (Ensemble) feels lucky to be a part of Barney the Elf this year! Chicago credits include Strangest Things! The Musical (Dustin) and Awkward Family Gatherings with Random Acts (where she is a company member), Tutus at Haven Theatre, Daphne’s Sunset at The Chicago Musical Theatre Festival, and understudying in The Humans and It’s a Wonderful Life at American Theatre Company. Colleen is a proud graduate of North Central College. Love and thanks to her parents, friends, roommates, and the entire Barney team.
LiSean McElrath (Ensemble) is ecstatic to begin his professional career with Other Theatre in Barney the Elf. LiSean has just started his freshmen year at North Central College and never thought he would get a gig like this in his first year of college. He is studying Musical Theatre and Organizational Communications with hopes of becoming a full time live actor. His favorite credits include Hairspray (Edna), The Diary of Anne Frank (Otto Frank), Footloose The Musical (Willard), Shrek The Musical (Shrek), and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Barfee). You will also see LiSean in the Spring working with Chicago Shakespeare Theatre’s production of Macbeth! He would also just like to thank his friends, family, and teachers who have all guided and supported him along the way.
Cody Talkie (Ensemble) is a recent graduate of North Central college with degrees in both Musical Theatre and Theatre performance. He was last seen on Greenhouse’s stage as the understudy of Young Male in Machinal. Other recent credits include: Al/Marburry/Brooklyn Bobby in The Navigator, Crick in Late, A Cowboy Song, and Dr. Orin Scrivello in Little Shop of Horrors. Cody is absolutely ecstatic to be a part of this production and wants to thank Other Theatre for this amazing opportunity.
Tommy Rivera-Vega (Director/Choreographer/Swing) is excited to return to Other Theatre, where he directed Barney the Elf last season. Bella DeBalle (Zooey US) is so honored and excited to be returning to work on Barney the Elf! She is a recent graduate of North Central College and an up and coming queen in the Chicago Drag Scene. She hopes that you enjoy the show!
